Keys for Kids is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, dedicated to inspiring and enabling youth to impact their communities through recycling and engagement initiatives.
On February 14, 2011, the renowned Sunshine Foundation granted the wish of my chronically ill son, an unforgettable dream come true. Inspired by this generosity, our family felt compelled to pay it forward. Two days later, our neighborhood initiative, Keys for Kids, collected its inaugural set of keys from our neighbors, marking the beginning of our community-wide endeavor.
Keys for Kids has collected, sorted, and upcycled/ recycled 5,491 pounds of unwanted keys and fobs, courtesy of donations from individuals, businesses, organizations, youth groups, and schools across the United States, Canada, and Australia. We extend our gratitude towards the 51 companies that have volunteered as key collection sites within the District of Columbia and Minnesota.
